Spring 2018 - Grassroots Marketing Intern - Charlotte Hornets (Charlotte, NC)

Position Overview

The marketing department is responsible for all brand building efforts. This entails developing key fan insights and translating insights into breakthrough fan engagement efforts. These efforts may be through traditional media, new media, events, partnerships, etc. The marketing intern will gain valuable training from the members of the marketing team on how to most effectively build a brand and how to effectively research a specific business challenge, develop winning strategies to address the business challenge, and qualify the proposed solutions with Hornets Fans. Unpaid internship working 20-40 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The applicant will assist in the interdepartmental implementation of marketing strategies, promotions and campaigns
  • Coordinate delivery of advertising collateral to media partners and other establishments
  • Understand and utilize web-based analytics tools for regular production and analysis of performance marketing program reports
  • Aid in the development of reporting requirements to determine ROI and overall effectiveness of campaigns
  • Assist in the management of databases and email campaigns
  • As an intern you will learn and utilize the techniques used for project management for creative (graphics) and brand initiatives (i.e. social, digital, mobile)
  • You will assist with the planning of Youth Basketball Camps and Clinics
  • Management of marketing department inventory and equipment

Position Overview

This is a non-paid internship and requires the individual to receive academic credit. You will need to attend Hornets Basketball games and be in the office 20-40 hours a week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting end user computer problems.
  • Communicating problems and solutions both verbally and in writing to customers and management.
  • Creating and following standard processes, plan effectively to complete tasks on schedule, and clearly document results.
  • Providing end user support to an internal client base of 100+ users.
  • Logging and tracking calls using problem management database, and maintains history records and related problem documentation.

Spring 2018 - Finance Intern - Charlotte Hornets (Charlotte, NC)

Position Overview

The Finance Department at Hornets Sports and Entertainment has seven members. The department is responsible for the accounting and finance functions of a holding company which includes, among other legal and accounting entities, a National Basketball Team and Spectrum Center. Also associated with the team is a 401(k) benefit plan and a not-for-profit organization. While some of the tasks the intern will face might be routine, the Department will have needs the intern can fill that provide insight into the "nuts and bolts" of how the organization works. Just as important, the department members will be glad to share their experiences working in sports and entertainment. This is a non-paid internship that requires the applicant to be in the office 20-40 hours a week.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will be assisting with the financial statement audit by preparing financial schedules to support the face statements or footnotes.
  • Assisting in the preparation of tax information for various entities and jurisdictions
  • Updating Excel workbooks and summarizing information such as insurance policies or sponsorship contracts.
  • Assisting the department with actual vs. budget comparisons
  • Assisting finance members with developing detailed budgets based upon discussions with various department heads
  • Converting trial balance information into management reports
  • You will record routine cash transactions in the sub ledger and post batches to the general ledger
  • Perform roll forwards and reconciliations. Roll forwards to include fixed assets, debt, and equity. Reconciliations to include cash, prepaid, and accruals.
  • Traditional intern tasks such as copying, filing, and basic data entry.

Spring 2018 - Marketing Intern - Charlotte Hornets (Charlotte, NC)

Position Overview

The marketing department is responsible for all brand building efforts. This entails developing key fan insights and translating insights into breakthrough fan engagement efforts. The intern will coordinate with the Project Manager of Marketing and the Coordinator of Marketing in helping provide the Marketing department with focus in the areas of project management, internal and external client communication, as well as the organization and system management of important department documents and processes. He/she will also gain valuable training from the members of the marketing team on how to most effectively build a brand and how to effectively research a specific business challenge, develop winning strategies to address the business challenge, and qualify the proposed solutions with Hornets Fans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with projects and tasks assigned by the Senior Director of Marketing & Senior VP of Marketing
  • Assist with managing start of season needs for 2017-18
  • Assist in the creation of Game Day Notes and Game Plans and preparing gift bags for VIP guests
  • Coordinate with manager’s for GameDay responsibilities
  • Coordinate creative checklists & copy for graphic designers on specific projects identified by Project Manager
  • Coordinate marketing content on all internal displays including marquee boards, arena TV’s, center hung and LED board event messaging, digital tickets and elevator posters
  • Manage 2017-18 Game Entitlement and Marketing Theme Nights tracking
  • Contribute to copywriting of various marketing communications including newsletters, sales offers, event messaging, partner offers and brand campaigns
  • Perform administrative tasks as required by department, including, but not limited to faxing, scheduling meetings, copying, filing and sorting department mail
  • Review company website for accuracy of marketing offers
  • Update Marketing Department Wall Calendar- Internal and external Hornets & arena events
  • Maintain department inventories (i.e. office supplies, break room, etc.)

  • Completed or working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Must receive college credit

Position Overview

The Charlotte Hornets Foundation is committed to inspiring a philanthropic culture and strengthening the Charlotte region through intentional partnerships, charitable giving and social projects in the areas of education, wellness, hunger and military care. The intern in this position will work directly with the Coordinator, Charlotte Hornets Foundation to facilitate, promote, maintain and implement fundraisers and events that support the Charlotte Hornets Foundation. This position is a non-paid internship working 20-40 hours per week, including all Hornets home games and arena/foundation events as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The applicant will manage the Hornets Community Corner on game days and facilitate the Community Corner’s nonprofit organization program. 
  • You will assist the coordinator of the Charlotte Hornets Foundation with fundraising activities and events including the foundation’s new CycleBar fundraiser, silent auctions, raffles and merchandise sales.
  • You will also assist with the execution of the foundation’s education, wellness, hunger and military grant programs and in-game recognitions.
  • The applicant will help coordinate the Hornets volunteer program including identifying opportunities for fan and employee engagement.

The Charlotte Hornets are seeking a high-energy individual to support members of the Event Presentation staff with daily team operations. Position Overview

You will work directly with the Foundation Manager to facilitate and maintain the Charlotte Hornets Book Bus & Hugo’s Reading Program/Assembly Presentation. This internship will be a combination of on and off site. This is an unpaid internship requiring the intern to be at all home games and some arena events 20-40 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will be assisting the manager with the literacy program for all Book Bus appearances
  • Running Hornets Community Corner program on game days
  • Assisting with Hugo’s Reading Program/Assembly Presentation

Spring 2018 - Technical Operations Intern - Charlotte Hornets (Charlotte, NC)

Position Overview

The intern will assist the Technical Operations department with managing and coordinating a wide array of functions for HSE and Spectrum Arena, including, but not limited to, event crewing, audio/video needs, studio production and recording, equipment maintenance and repair, ordering of parts, and operation of electronics systems and equipment design for all basketball and non-basketball related events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The ideal candidate should be motivated, professional and detail oriented.

  • Able to work all events
  • Assisting with independent contractor paperwork,
  • Walking the arena and make sure TVs are operating and work with a game night checklist
  • Assisting with outdoor video and tickers operation
  • Responsible for assisting with technical needs ranging across all HSE and The Spectrum Arena events including Charlotte Hornets and all third party events
  • Assist with day-to-day activities including but not limited to equipment maintenance and repair, studio work flows, and trouble shooting
  • Assist with event production crewing for Charlotte Hornets and other identified events
  • Interns are required to work 20-40 hours a week

Spring 2018 - Business Analytics Intern - Charlotte Hornets (Charlotte, NC)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Business Analytics and Database Marketing Intern will be interning in our offices here in Charlotte, NC. The primary responsibility of this intern will be to assist the Business Intelligence department’s needs with business analytics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with statistical research and examination
  • Algorithm testing
  • Assist with creating analysis on business metrics
  • Assist with data cleansing and preparation
  • Data entry

The qualifications listed below represent the credentials necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Due to the high complexity of the work we will give this intern, this person must have advanced knowledge of Excel functions such as Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, IF, macros, etc.
  • If you describe yourself as an “Excel Wizard“ we would like to chat with you.
  • The ideal candidate will be extremely detailed and organized.
  • Candidates should be organized, professional, mature, self-starting and committed to the sports industry.

Education and/or Experience

  • Must receive college credit.
  • Experience working on a database append/cleanup project for a company or organization is beneficial.
  • Experience working on a statistical project and/or modeling for a sports team is beneficial.
  • Experience with R or Python.
  • Experience with computer programming preferred.

Spring 2018 - Communications Intern - Greensboro Swarm (Greensboro, NC)

Position Overview

The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA Development League team owned and operated by the Charlotte Hornets, is looking for a college junior, senior or graduate student to serve as the Communications intern for the Public Relations department. The pursuit of a sports management, communications or public relations degree is preferred. The position is unpaid and the student must receive academic credit. Hours vary but attendance at all Swarm home games during the semester is required. May be asked to attend other events on evenings or weekends. The Communication Intern will rotate throughout the department in the areas of maintaining media tasks, public relation duties, and miscellaneous job duties. The Intern must be proficient in Microsoft applications, possess both excellent writing and people skills and preferably have previous experience in a college sports information office. This unpaid internship requires 30-40 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining media lists
  • Assisting PR staff and game day communications staff at all Swarm home games
  • Assisting with creating and distributing of media credentials
  • Assisting with research, writing and editing of media releases as necessary
  • Distributing public relations material to staff and fans as requested
  • Organizing and archiving media clippings and recapping media events
  • Assisting with the creation of PR plans
  • Responding to media inquiries
  • Additional miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Spring 2018 - Ticket Sales Intern - Greensboro Swarm (Greensboro, NC)

Position Overview

This is a non-paid internship and requires the individual to receive academic credit. This intern will need to attend Greensboro Swarm events and need to be in the office 20-40 hours a week. This is an unpaid position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Must be available to work majority of home games during the regular season
  • Assist with fan engagement events
  • Assist Ticket Sales Representatives with daily activities
  • Participate in daily and weekly sales/career development training sessions
  • Interns will have hands-on experience in sales (via phone and in-person), public relations, marketing, event planning, customer service, promotions, and business management
  • Miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisor

Spring 2018 - Community Relations - Greensboro Swarm (Greensboro, NC)

Position Overview

The Greensboro Swarm is seeking excited, outgoing, and dedicated candidates to become an integral part of our ongoing launch for the new NBA Development League team. The Community Relations intern will be responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the department and working closely with the Community Relations Director. The selected candidate will gain valuable experience in the planning and implementation of a community outreach program as well as a deep understanding of the relationship between our brand and the community. This is unpaid position.

Essentail Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, facilitation, and execution of community relations events
  • Assist with social media and communications for community relations initiatives
  • Assist in the fulfillment of community donation requests
  • Oversee organization wide volunteer opportunities and programs
  • Assist and implement grass roots marketing plans
  • Maintain and continue to improve a positive image for the company
  • Working closely with the different departments within the organization and all other projects as assigned

Spring 2018 - Game Entertainment and Marketing Intern - Greensboro Swarm (Greensboro, NC)

Position Overview

The Game Entertainment Intern will be working in our Greensboro office. The primary responsibility of this intern is to assist the Manager of Marketing and Game Presentation in day-to-day activities including but not limited to advertising, event activation, and game promotions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilites

  • Create family-friendly show that focuses on both large-scale and individualized fan experience
  • Assist entertainment stage coordinator on game days
  • Assist with all game day materials including: writing scripts, game day formats, work schedules, and game day assignments
  • Assist with National Anthems, Color Guards, Halftime Performances, and other per-game, in-game, and post-game entertainment
  • Maintain entertainment calendar
  • Attend all preseason and regular season games
  • Create entertainment teams’ information sheets
  • Provide instruction and direction to ensure all contests, performances and sponsor elements are  properly executed
  • Attend / coordinate additional team events as necessary
  • Coordinate rehearsal schedules and secure rehearsal space
  • Assist with coordination of auditions and photo shoots
  • Manage the inventory of all game day props, prizes and giveaways
  • Assist with all in-game promotions including: live features, crowd prompts, and music
  • All other duties as assigned including assisting Greensboro Swarm staff with any other needs
  • Assist with social media platforms
  • Other duties as applied
